Everett Wright

July 22, 1928 - Dec. 26, 2015

Everett Lewis Wright, 87 of Reedsport, passed away Dec. 26, 2016.

...

Everett was born July 22, 1928, in Rimbey, Alberta, Canada, to John and Retha (Rimbey) Wright. He grew up in Rimbey as the youngest of six children of an evangelical preacher. At the age of 17, he and his family moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. At the age of 21 he married Marilyn Miller in Walla Walla and they moved to the Reedsport area in 1951.

In 1954 Everett and Marilyn bought a ranch near Reedsport where Everett enjoyed raising cattle, goats, horses, and many other farm animals. He especially enjoyed his milk goats and his horses. He also enjoyed milling beautiful Myrtle wood lumber from trees on his property. He shared his love for the outdoors with his family by taking them on frequent outings and trips - hunting, fishing, camping, and extensive vacations. He was a gifted teller of colorful true stories.

He retired from Local Union 701 (heavy equipment operator) after many years working on various highway construction and dredging jobs, which included shaping the dike around lower Reedsport and dredging the Cowlitz River after Mount St. Helens erupted.

Everett is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; his son, Tom and Amber Wright; his daughter, Wendy Wicks of Reedsport; and grandchildren, Nicole Wright, Sandra Mix, Evan Wicks, Casey Wicks, and Jeffrey Wicks.

The funeral service for Everett will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Reedsport Church of God with graveside burial to follow at 3 p.m. at the Lazy W Deans Creek.
Care entrusted to Dunes Memorial Chapel, 541-271-2822.
