Ellen was born in La Grande, Ore., to Patrick and Ruth McCormick, Sept 6, 1931. She passed away April 2, 2016, at Aidan Senior Living.

She is survived by nieces, Melinda McCormick, Shari Wagg, and Collet Niederer; foster daughter, Jenny (Coke) Smothers; and dear friend, Myrna Naapi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jack; husband, Bob; son, Daniel; and a niece, Annie McCormick.

Ellen was best known as a community piano teacher. She was honored as the Business Woman of the year for her music, by the Business and Professional Woman’s Club in February, 1968. She taught piano for many years in her home in Reedsport. She had many students who went on to college to major in music after learning the apperception of music. She put on many recitals in local churches showcasing her students. She was a member of the Reedsport Covenant United Methodist Church for many years. She also enjoyed going with her late husband hunting and trapping, as well as just enjoying nature.

Ellen’s son, Daniel, passed away July 1, 2014. Ellen enjoyed working with Daniel teaching him the appreciation of music and the love of the piano. They enjoyed the same music and often played piano together.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Reedsport Covenant United Methodist Church, 3520 Frontage Road, officiated by Reverend Bill Davis.
