Luella Dodge Obituary

Reedsport-Luella “Lou” Jean Dodge, 84, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family. A graveside service at Scottsburg cemetery will be held at a later date.

Luella was born on November 17, 1934 in Valdez Alaska to Frances and Marion (Sullivan) Burch. The family moved to Aida, Oregon where she spent her childhood. She eventually graduated from Reedsport High School. During this time, she met Harley Dodge and they married on March 1, 1952 in Reedsport. The family would live in Reedsport, The Dalles, Vancouver Washington, and eventually settle back at Reedsport. Luella worked as a housekeeper/waitress at the Schooner, worked at Pizza Ray’s, and also worked for Don Hoseapple.

She enjoyed camping, her family, fishing, collecting chickens, and she loved cooking for friends, family outings and reunions. She loved studying the Bible and helping others. Luella belonged to the Eagles Lodge, volunteered at the hospital in Coos Bay, and was a speaker for Ala-Non.

Luella is survived by; spouse, Harley Dodge, children; Bruce (Jeannie) of Reedsport, Rod (Kathy) of Vancouver Washington, and Dennis (Robin) of Gold Canyon Arizona. She is further survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Frances and Marion Burch and sister, Carol Harper of Reno, NV. Luella was a loving wife and mother for 67 years.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to South Coast Hospice and Palliative Care Services; 1620 Thompson Rd. Coos Bay OR 97420. Arrangements entrusted to Dunes Memorial Chapel.
