Benjamin Edwin Sanders, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 29, 2024, at the age of 86 in Reedsport, Oregon. He was born on January 11, 1938, in Calico Rock, Arkansas, to Elmo Sanders and Evelyn Dorey Sanders. Benjamin led a life full of service, innovation, and devotion to his family, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Benjamin proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, earning distinction for his dedication and commitment. After his military service, he worked at Owens Brockway Manufacturing for many years as a mechanic, where his skill and ingenuity were evident. He redesigned manufacturing equipment that was ultimately adopted by the company, a testament to his talent and work ethic.
On April 2, 1974, Benjamin married Norma Sanders, and together they created a loving home for their family. His passion for life was evident in everything he did. He was an avid baseball player at heart, a dedicated golfer, and an outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking. He also had a deep love for music, particularly country tunes, and spent many hours playing his guitar.
Benjamin is survived by his loving wife, Norma Sanders; his children Robert Sanders, Mark Sanders, Rick Sanders, Corilanne Sanders, Maria Del Rio, and Sabrina Pedrotte; his brothers Bill Knight and sister Vicky Knight-Brisbon; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Evelyn Sanders.
A memorial service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, on November 19, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. The cemetery is located at SE 112th Ave, Portland, OR 97266.
Benjamin's legacy of love, innovation, and service will live on through his family and all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. May he rest in peace.
