Charles William Vitek, 89, a resident of the Reedsport community died Monday, April 29, 2013 at his home of natural causes.
Graveside Services and Interment will be held Friday, May 3, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Reedsport Masonic Cemetery in Reedsport with Celebrant, Cindy Hinton officiating.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a reception at the Dunes Memorial Chapel, 2300 Frontage Road immediately following the services.
Charles William Vitek was born November 18, 1923 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to the late Charlie and Lottie (Jafek) Vitek. He was raised and educated there while he was working on the family farm. Charles loved music and played in a Polka Band called “Harmony Aces”. He moved West as a young man settling in Oregon in 1951.
Charles married Lorene Retha Vogt on February 4, 1952 after they met on a blind date set up by two of their friends. They celebrated sixty- one years of life together and raised four children.
Charles began working in the lumber industry. He was a self- made Timber Faller and a very hard working man. Several of the places he worked were at Daileys’, Sun Studs in Roseburg and Bohemia in Lakeside. Charles retired in 1985 and promptly went back to work helping out whenever he was needed. He passed on his good work ethics and his sense of humor to his children.
Among his personal interests he loved to go clamming and fishing. Charles always had a big garden. He liked being outside at every opportunity. He and Lorene would make a road trip once a year to go visit the family in Oklahoma.
Charles was preceded in death by his brother Robert Vitek and his sister Clara.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene, two sons and daughters in law; Charles Jr. (Chuck) and Charmaine, Ronald and Felicia, daughters and son in law; Carla Vitek and Lisa and Harold Smiley all of the Reedsport community. Also surviving is one brother, Gene Vitek as well as ten grandchildren, six-teen great grandchildren and one almost here.
