Obituary

Clarence Harold Naapi, 90, a lifelong resident of the Reedsport community died Wed. Sept. 18, 2013 in Reedsport.

Memorial Services will be held Sun. Sept. 22, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Covenant United Methodist Church, 3520 Frontage Road in Reedsport with Military Honors.

Private cremation rites have been held and inurnment will be held at the Reedsport Masonic Cemetery at a later date.

Clarence Harold Naapi was born Feb. 19, 1923 to Lenne and Esther Naapi on the family farm east of Reedsport. He was raised and educated here having graduated from Reedsport Union High School. Clancey worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the US Navy in May 1944, attending basic training at Camp Farragut, Idaho, assigned to the LST 899 and then on to Okinawa. The LSTs’ main mission was to transport tanks and troops. He was later sent to fire control school in Seattle, Wa.  The next assignment would be fire control man second class on the USS Oakland. He received his honorable discharge in Bremerton, Wa. on May 18, 1946.

After returning home Clarence attended the University of Oregon Business School on the GI bill, graduating in 1951 with his bachelor’s degree. He came home and worked at Decker Point Dairy, Thompson Ford Sales and Reedsport Motors.

His pastimes were bowling and playing golf. Clancy was an avid U of O Duck fan and he followed all the Duck sports teams.

Survivors include his brother and sister in law; Leo and Myrna Naapi, a niece, Jeanine VanDeGrift, nephew, Paul Naapi, several cousins; Richard Ogren, Coos Bay, OR, Nancy Webb, Prineville, Patricia Jacobs, Santa Fe, NM, Kathy Lahti, Morongo Valley, CA, Sandra Moore, Blue Springs, MS, Grand nieces, Daria and Nara VanDeGrift, and many other cousins in Finland.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions made to Project Blessing, Mailing address; 2191 Birch Ave, Reedsport, Or 97467, In Clancey’s Memory.
