IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Ann
Kolb
November 16, 1936 – May 19, 2025
Dorothy Ann Kolb (nee Forristal), 11/16/1936 passed away in peace May 19, 2025 at 3:46 AM at
Aidan Senior Living in Reedsport, Oregon.
Dottie, as she was known by, was born in Lafe, Arkansas. At age 6 she was sent to St. Vincent’s
orphanage in Buffalo, New York, and lived there until she was 12 years old. She left home at age
15 to live in St. Louis, Missouri. She lied about her age and became a telephone operator.
Shirley Kolb lived next door and introduced Dottie to her brother, Robert, an aspiring artist.
Dottie and Robert married on July 11, 1956. After Robert was discharged by the Air Force, he
was offered a job at Hughes Aircraft so they moved to Inglewood, California. Later, they moved
to Fullerton, California, a block away from Robert’s older brother Joseph Kolb.
Dottie was known to live life on her own terms. Robert died at age 49 from lung cancer. Dottie
never remarried. In 1995 she moved with her younger sister Peggy, to Arkansas where they
took care of their mother for 15 years. Dottie enjoyed the comfort of her schnauzers, Misty and
Mitzi. She moved to Reedsport in 2010 to be closer to her daughter, Kathy Moon.
Dottie enjoyed listening to her spiritual teachers Yogananda and Aydashanti and to a wide
range of music, especially the Moody Blues. She was a dog-sitter, enjoying love from the
puppies she spoiled. Gradually Dottie lost her sight. Early in 2025 she was diagnosed with an
invasive maxillary sinus cancer, and it took her life. Throughout the struggle with her illness, she
was brave, stubborn (a Forristal trait) and determined.
Dottie was predeceased by her husband, Robert James Kolb in 1981. She is survived by her
daughters Kathryn Moon of Reedsport, Oregon; Karen Kolb Smith of Paradise California; and
son Robert Kolb in Chico, California; and grandchildren Shaun Gustafson of Renton,
Washington; Christina Duflo of Rockledge, Florida; and Ian Gustafson of Ephraim, Utah; and by
her precious great granddaughter, Emma Gustafson of Ephraim, Utah. She is also survived by
two of her siblings, Henry Forristal of Moreno Valley, California and Charles Forristal, of Santa
Clarita, California.
