Frances Margaret Murphey, 88, of Reedsport, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016. She was born to Abraham and Florence Summers April 17, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisc.

Frances was raised and attended school in Maddock, N.D., before moving to Reedsport where on Feb. 17 1946, she was joined in marriage with Kenneth Allen Murphey. She worked in and around Reedsport at the cannery, saw mills, and at the school cafeteria. After her retirement, as a volunteer she helped to establish the Senior Center in Reedsport and drove for Dial-a-Ride. Her hobbies included ceramics, cake decorating, bird watching, knitting, as well as community service, and held memberships with the Rebekah Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary. In 1998, Frances along with other members of the Murphey family were honored with an award for Family Community Service by Douglas County.

Frances is survived by daughter, Gail Platter and husband,Bob of Reedsport; son, Terry Murphey and wife, Janet of Eugene; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jean Harris and Helen Bartow; and brother-in-law, Leo Murphey and his wife, Joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, four sisters, and her husband.

A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at Dunes Memorial Chapel, 2300 Frontage Road in Reedsport. Graveside service will commence at 1 p.m. at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery, 3021 Longwood Drive in Reedsport. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church, 2360 Longwood Drive in Reedsport.
