No services are planned for Fred VanWert, 67, of Reedsport.

Fred was born Sept. 6, 1944, to Frank and Mildred (Gotcher) VanWert. He died Jan. 14, 2013.

He He married Lee Dewitt in Las Vegas Sept. 12, 1977.

Fred spent 31 years as a firefighter in Riverside, Calif. He retired as an engineer in 2001 and they moved to Reedsport, where he loved to play golf.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Lee; three daughters, Penny VanWert of Sommersville, Mont., Kathy O’leary of Riverside, Calif., and Nancy DeWindt of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, John DeWindt of Gardnerville, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
