Obituary

Gary Bowers was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin on August 6, 1953, to Howard and Clara Bowers and died on April 14, 2026, at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Walter McLain, Larry Bowers, and Roger Bowers.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joanna; sons Paul, Michael, John Bowers, and John Swanson, and his daughter Brenda Reece. He is also survived by his two brothers, Stan Prochaska, Jack Bowers, and two sisters, Clarita Rexford and Anita Sams, 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary worked most of his life in several industrial lumber mills becoming a boiler operator and was a lifelong member of IWA. He retired at age f63 and moved to Reedsport.

He will be remembered for his love of music and was an accomplished musician and played in many bands throughout his lifetime. He was especially gifted in playing saxophone, keyboard, and Piano. He was a singer and backup singer in several bands, the latest being Stillwater.

Gary’s hobbies included a love of old cars, camping, travelling, and sharing stories with family and friends around a campfire.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and doting grandfather.

A celebration of life will be held for Gary on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Winchester Bay Marina Activity Center, 120 Marine Way, Winchester Bay, Oregon with a potluck to follow.
