Obituary

Harry Robert “Bob” Wilkes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 77. Born on November 26, 1946, to Frank Wilkes and Pauline Sauer, Bob was raised in Reedsport, Oregon, where he would spend much of his life.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Linda Wilkes, on July 30, 1966, at the Assembly of God Church in Reedsport. Together, they raised a family, built a life, and shared a love of the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. Known as a great fisherman, Bob's passion for the sport was matched only by his deep connection to the land. He cherished his farm and cows, treating each one with love and care, although he couldn't bear the thought of butchering them.

Bob’s life was defined by hard work and dedication. He was self-employed, working with his fishing vessel, the Aurora Maid, Umpqua Bait, Bob Wilkes Falling, and numerous logging companies throughout the years. Additionally, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, completing two terms of service. Later, Bob worked with International Paper Company and the local plywood mill.

A true outdoorsman, Bob was a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (#346), reflecting his deep appreciation for nature and conservation.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Kim Callison (husband Greg); son, Cliff Wilkes (wife Rebecca); grandchildren, Dillon Chudy (wife Kimberly), Kaylee Chudy (fiancé Tim), Ashley Wilkes (wife Madie), Heather Wilkes (fiancé Stephano), Nolan Wilkes; and great-grandchildren, Ryder, Weston, Ava Chudy, Sawyer Baldwin, and Stetson Wilkes. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pauline Wilkes; his sister, Joanne; and his brother, Laverne.

A graveside service for Bob will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Reedsport Masonic Cemetery, followed by a reception at Bedrock by the Bay. The family invites all who knew and loved Bob to join them in remembering a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in Bob’s honor.

Bob will be dearly missed, remembered for his love of family, the outdoors, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
