Obituary

The world became a richer place on June 18, 1935 at 6:30 am when Kay Edith McCampbell was born in Oakland, Ca to Charles and Edith McCampbell, the 4th of 7 children. She went to several different schools, graduating from Richmond Union High School in January 1953 in Richmond, Ca. She changed her name to Kay Edith Stumpf after marrying Ronald Stumpf on February 5, 1955. She loved people, especially children. She volunteered for kid’s programs, park recreation, 4H Club, swimming, and coaching.

She finally went to college to become a teacher, graduating the same year as her oldest son Ron, a high school graduate. She taught and coached at the Esparto schools where all four of her children attended. She retired after 20 years and started doing things she didn’t have time for while working.

She was very active and had many hobbies including reading, crosswords, quilting, bowling, tennis, volleyball, camping, and playing piano. She was a member of Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) and volunteered for many organizations including Umpqua Discovery Center, local libraries and hospitals, and sang in her church choir. While in Grangeville she was instrumental in establishing the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store. She enjoyed traveling the US and visiting other countries including Germany, Ireland, Italy, Panama and Mexico. She lived by the Golden Rule and taught that as well. She was an exemplary human being loved by all.

Kay passed peacefully in her sleep January 18, 2026. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, oldest son Ronald Jr, sister Eva, brother Dan, sister Myra, brother Richard, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband Ron Sr., son Dennis (Tawnya), daughter Tracy (John), daughter Jenny (Miguel), sister Dona, sister Sandra, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on June 18, 2026 in Capay, Ca.
