Lyle Eldon Earle was born July 22 1928 in Florence, Oregon to the late Sollie A.and Fay L.(Akerly) Earle. He was raised one of eight children and he attended a one room school house in North Fork and graduated from Reedsport High School. During his last year of school he also worked at the lumber mill in Gardiner. Following his education he worked on the family ranch and drove a milk truck.
Lyle was united in marriage to Margeret L. Cookson on September 9, 1948 in Oakland, Oregon. They celebrated sixty-three years of life together and raised seven children.
As a young father of a big family, Lyle worked hard doing both logging and working on the family dairy farm. As the children grew and were able to help with chores he found time to be involved in the community. He was a past member of the Smith River Grange, he was an active volunteer for the STEP Program, he helped to build the six mile trail up to the North Fork and Kentucky Falls, he wrote a book, wrote poetry and was very active in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He taught his children the value of respect for our natural resources. He took his daughter and grandchildren out to help with the tree planting through the Reedsport School District. There was a three generation photo and an article in the local paper in response to their efforts.
Among his personal interests he loved fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He took a trip to Alaska where he was able to hunt and fish. Lyle helped to organize regular family reunions to keep in touch with everyone. Lyle enjoyed playing the piano and having music on in the house all of the time. He was a Braves Booster and supported his grandchildren in their sports activities. He loved food. He enjoyed family gathering and sharing a meal.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jon Rocklyn Earl.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, son, Brad Earle, daughters; Dixie Earle, Karen Peck, Jeannie Brown, Phyllis Arrant, Sherri Doudt, and Terry Briggs, four brothers; Allen, Wes, Melvin and Louis Earle, two sisters, Patsy Schwartz and Wanda Gustofson.
Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances may be contributions made to promote learning for the youth of our community.
