IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul
Coates
July 19, 1936 – March 21, 2013
No services will be held for Paul F. Coates, 76, of Ash Valley. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date in the woods he loved to hunt in.
Paul was born July 19, 1936, in Stayton, the second child of Arthur and Helen Coates. He died March 21, 2013, in Ash Valley.
He grew up on a farm and learned early on to work hard. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years, he traveled to the Oregon coast where he worked as a logger during the day and hunted with hound dogs at night. He was quite adventurous and took a liking to parachuting. In 1966 he met and married Laurelite Toppings. They lived in Alaska and Canada for brief periods of time during their marriage, but most of their lives were spent in Ash Valley, where they raised three children and ran their business, Coates Logging.
Paul was known for being a diligent, hard-working man. He was a helpful neighbor who always had a tool you could borrow and he could weld or fix anything that needed repair. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing and hunting and looked especially forward to elk season.
Paul is survived by his wife, Laurie; daughter, Dawn Lindberg; sons, Brian and Greg Coates; and granddaughter, Cheyenne Lindberg, all of Reedsport; and sisters, Jeanne Williams of Lebanon, Donna Coates of Utah and Margaret Rister of Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
