Raymond Ellsworth Manicke, 82, of Reedsport, Oregon, passed away peacefully at his home

on July 17, 2026.

Ray was born on September 25, 1943, in Caldwell, Idaho, to Forrest and Atlanta Manicke. In

the early 1950s, his family moved to the Southern Oregon Coast, where he attended school

in the Langlois–Port Orford School District. He later proudly served his country in the United

States Navy.

After his military service, Ray returned to Oregon and married Jane Kirchgesler in 1969.

Together they shared 57 years of marriage and raised four children.

Ray worked in the timber industry throughout his career, including several years owning and

operating his own logging company, Manicke and Manicke Logging. In addition to his work

in the timber industry, he spent many years farming and raising cattle on the ranch. He was

known for his strong work ethic, generosity, and willingness to help others. He enjoyed

hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. Wickiup

Reservoir was one of his favorite places, where many lasting family memories were made.

Ray also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Whether it was Thirty-One, cribbage,

pinochle, or poker, he always appreciated a little friendly competition.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Atlanta Manicke, and his brother,

Forrest “Rusty” Manicke.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Jane; his children, Mark, Kevin, Eric, and Sheila;

daughters-in-law, Sara and Rhiannon; son-in-law, Jon Hathaway; brothers Bruce Manicke,

Richard (Jan) Manicke, James (Sandy) Manicke, and Pete (Brenda) Manicke; sisters Sharon

Martin, Mary (Denny) Leiseth, Janice (Arnie) Polanchek, Roberta (Mike) McDonald, and

Beverly (Jim) Moor; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces,

nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Ray will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his love of the outdoors, and the

kindness and generosity he showed throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who

knew and loved him.
