David Alester Moore passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020. He was 86 years old.
David was born July 14, 1933 in Coquille. His parents were Helen (Detwiler) Moore and Joseph Moore. Helen died when David was 4 years old, and Joseph subsequently married Molly (Mildred) Hertel, who was David’s loving step-mother until her death in 1997.
David grew up in Coos and Douglas Counties. He attended Marshfield High School through his Junior year and graduated from Vale High School in 1951. He was an Oregon Pioneer, with his maternal 3rd Great-Grandparents; Samuel and Rachel Casebeer, also William and Rebecca Carter, having immigrated to Douglas County via the 1852 Oregon Trail.
His great-grandfather was a Civil War Veteran, who lost two brothers in that war. Many of his ancestors were Pilgrims or early Virginia settlers, and many of them fought in the Revolutionary war. He entered the US Army in 1956. His tours of duty took him to Germany, Vietnam, and Korea. He retired at the rank of 1st Sergeant from the 501st AG Company, 1st Armored Division in 1978.
He resided in Colorado following retirement and subsequently settled in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 2007. There he developed a close circle of friends and enjoyed gardening, his pets, and daily coffee shop visits with his pals.
He is survived by his wife, Hannelore Moore; his daughter Elizabeth Moore, Elizabeth’s husband Kenneth McLaughlin, and their children Leigh Anne and Mira; his son Edward Moore, Edward’s wife Tracy, and Edward’s son Andrew; and his sister-in-law Laura Moore.
David will be laid to rest with his parents in the Reedsport Masonic Cemetery, which will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
