Obituary

Jack Gentle, of Reedsport Oregon, passed away on July 13th, 2023.

Jack was born December 26th, 1948, in McMinnville, Oregon to parents Arthur Johnson and Beverly Birchell. He was raised in Willamina and attended Willamina Grade School before attending Willamette High School.

Jack and his wife Patty were married February 14th, 2006 in Springfield, Oregon.

Jack worked in many mills in the 70’s before moving to Mississippi to open his own. In the late 80’s he returned home and worked for Georgia Pacific before retiring in 2005. He then went on to purchase the Tides Inn Bar and Grill in addition to commercial fishing and purchasing the ship named Mohawk, which he called The Mighty Mo.

Jack loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was known for his BBQ’s and did a lot of catering. One of his favorite activities was BBQing for the Chainsaw Carving Father’s Day Weekend.

Jack is survived by his wife Patty, stepson Rob and daughter in law Tawnee, daughters Kim and Laurie and son in law Brian, seven grandkids and four great-grandkids, aunt and uncle Barbara and Cliff Brotherton, aunt and uncle Shirley and Larry, Cousin Michelle and his cousins in Petersburg, Alaska.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sisters Gaylene and Sherlene, and his uncle Walt Birchell.

Jack had many friends and was so loved for his wonderful sense of humor.
