Pete was preceded in death by his father Richard Heley, mother Alice, brothers Dickey and Phil, and sister Sidney.
Pete's surviving family members are brother and sister in law Clay and Karin Heley of Albany, brother and sister in law Ethan and Tracy Heley of North Bend, and sister in law Sheila Heley of Cottage Grove; along with several nieces and nephews.
Pete was an avid fisherman; publishing many books on the topic. He also published his own magazine, The Oregon Angler. He was also a longtime outdoor columnist for the Umpqua Post. Pete worked in many businesses in the area including Stockade Market, The Tide's Inn and Darling Resort. According to Pete's former employer at The Stockade, Liz Adamo, he didn't know a stranger. He would engage everyone, and people would come in just to visit with him.
No formal service will be held. The family is planning a private rememberance for Pete.
